Express Entry (EE)
Express Entry is an online system that IRCC uses to manage applications for permanent residence under the following programs:
1. Federal Skilled Workers (FSW)
2. Federal Skilled Trades (FST)
3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
4. Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) Program
The Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) judges the skilled worker candidates based on certain parameters that determine their program eligibility. Applicants are evaluated based on their educational qualifications, skills, knowledge of French and/ or English, age and work experience. The applicants are selected based on their ability to succeed economically in Canada.
Requirements for the Federal Skilled Worker Program
- You must have at least one year of paid work experience (even part-time) within the last 10 years (NOC O,A,B)
- You must meet the minimum language requirements (CLB 7 in English or French.)
- You must meet minimum FSW score requirements (67)
- You must meet proof of funds requirements (as per current IRCC requirements)
When it comes to processing time, IRCC aims to process a complete Federal Skilled Worker application in six (6) months or less.

Federal Skilled Trades (FST) Program
The Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST) judges the skilled trades candidates based on certain parameters that determine their program eligibility. Applicants are evaluated based on their qualification, skills, knowledge of French and/ or English, age and work experience.
Key Requirements for the Federal Skilled Trades Program
- You must have at least two years of paid full-time work experience within the last 5 years (NOC B).
- You must meet the minimum language requirements (Speaking/Listening CLB 5 and Reading/Writing CLB 4 in English or French.)
- You should have either an LMIA based job-offer for full-time employment in Canada of at least one year. Job offer can be from one or two employers (at least 30 hours per week) OR a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade.

Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
Do you have at least 1 year of Canadian work experience? If yes, Canadian Experience Class may be the best pathway for you to gain permanent residency in Canada, along with your family members. A job offer in not required!
Key Requirements for the Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
- You must have completed at least one year of full-time employment (NOC O,A,B) in Canada within the last 3 years.
- You must meet the minimum language requirements (NOC O,A – CLB 7, NOC B – CLB 5 in English or French).
- No need to show proof of funds.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)
Provincial Nominee Program is unique and specific to each province or territory in Canada. Each PNP program has its own set of criteria and promotes different policies of immigration of a given province.
PNP works through EE however some provinces have specific PNP programs outside EE.
Key Requirements for the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP):
- Most provincial nominee programs require a valid full-time job offer in an eligible occupation. (This eligibility varies by province).
- Certain PNP programs may not require a job-offer.
- You must meet the minimum language requirements (varies by province).
- There may be certain other requirements by the province for each program.
